The Citystorm was our first collaboration with Giant and the project that set the tone for everything that followed. Giant came to us with a clear challenge: to design a city bike for riders who were not sportsmen, people who wanted something that could perform in an urban environment but also speak to them emotionally, as a fashion or design object might. The starting point was a thorough study of existing frame constructions, after which we identified four areas where we could make a meaningful difference: the integrated design elements, the touch points, the functionality and the overall design language. One of the most distinctive features was the Kevlar and steel wire lock, built directly into the bike so that riders would never be without it. The Citystorm was designed as a contemporary take on traditional cycling, a city bike equally suited to the daily commute or a leisurely ride, and it laid the groundwork for the Cityspeed that followed.
