E&Y - Barstool

The Barstool was produced for E&Y in 1995 during our first period of working with Yoichi Nakamuta in Japan, and it captures something of the mood of that collaboration precisely. The seat is a continuous upholstered torus, a closed ring form with a narrow opening at its centre, mounted on a polished chrome trumpet base with a slim cross footrest. The geometry is bold and immediate but the execution is restrained, the ring form sitting with complete confidence on the single stem beneath it. It was part of the broader body of work we showed with E&Y through the mid-1990s, a period when our round-cornered, colourful approach to furniture stood in deliberate contrast to the sober minimalism that had defined the years before it. The Barstool is available in a range of upholstery colours.
