We designed the PXR5 in 2004 as one of our first projects after relocating to Asia, originally as a purely personal thought exercise. Watch design had always struck us as a peculiar hybrid of Victorian convention and Formula 1 aesthetics, and we wanted to strip all of that away. The question we asked ourselves was simple: what do you actually need from a watch? The answer was just as simple. You need it to tell the time, and you need to be able to wear it with anything. The result was the PXR5, a rectangular stainless steel case housing a digital LCD display, fastened to the wrist by a woven nylon strap with a velcro closure. Nothing more. It debuted at SuperStudio in Milan where queues formed in the corridors, and sold out before we could reach a single retailer. It continued to sell steadily for five years before we stepped back from the retail side of the business. A decade later, in 2015, the PXR5 came back into production through a collaboration with Swedish watch brand VOID, who brought it into their permanent collection with new finishes, colourways and surfaces while keeping the original design entirely intact.
