Established & Sons - Zipzi

Walking through the streets of Sheung Wan in Hong Kong we came across a tiny folded paper ball. Our heads were full of cold factories and machines at the time, which gave us a determination to work on what felt like the most regressive progressive project imaginable: an ancient Chinese technique of creating intricate objects by assembling folded paper. The Zipzi table was the result. Individual paper components are knitted together using a traditional interlocking process to form the table base, creating rich visual patterns and textures while also providing extraordinary structural support for the glass tabletop. The paper is stabilised with a metal alloy and framed with anodised metal panels, making the finished piece far more robust than its delicate appearance suggests. We produced the Zipzi for Established and Sons in two height versions and a series of colourways including Fresh Hues and Warm Hues, and it was first exhibited at Vienna Design Week in 2009.
