The Omotesandō Herald Vol. 07 is a special 30th anniversary edition of our periodic journal titled Mid Nineties Modern. It captures the latest evolution of Michael Young Studio and our move from Hong Kong to Tokyo. A major highlight of this volume is the thirty-year history of the Magazine Sofa, an icon of design now housed in global museums like the Victoria and Albert Museum and M+. The publication offers an intimate look at Michael’s origins, covering his early days in Tom Dixon’s warehouse and his bold 1994 arrival in Japan with only five pounds to his name.
Our presence in Tokyo continues our dedication to merging high-level technology with cultural craft. This issue explores current projects such as the 2024 Craft / Tech Tohoku Project, which uses 3D printing to reimagine traditional cast iron modules. We also showcase recent partnerships like the vibrant LSXII collection for KEF and minimalist ritual tools designed for 12 Matcha in New York. These milestones will be celebrated during Design Tide Tokyo 2025 with a special exhibition at the KEF Music Gallery Tokyo.
