We designed Infinite for Gorbon, one of Turkey's most distinguished ceramic producers, founded in Istanbul in 1957 by Rebii Gorbon, one of the leading architects of his generation. In Islamic art, geometric designs are often built on combinations of repeated squares and circles, which may be overlaid and interlaced to form infinite patterns and tessellations. Working from that study, we implemented our experience in building complex three-dimensional geometries in 3D software to create Infinite for the family owned company. The tiles launched at 100% Design in London in September 2019, first shown at Blueprint Ceramics, and went on to appear in our own home on Lamma Island, where they were handmade in Istanbul specifically for the project.
