The Metamisms are a series of 3D printed side tables produced in collaboration with Wenext, available in square and circular profiles. Each table begins as a solid geometric form at the top and dissolves progressively downward into an intricate latticed structure, a gradient that moves from mass to almost nothing. The pattern is generated by an algorithm set as a random programme that evolves organically within the boundaries of the given shape, meaning that while each table follows the same logic, the precise detail of every piece is unique. The result sits somewhere between furniture and sculpture, and represents our most sustained exploration of what 3D printing can do that no other process can: generate structural complexity of this order without tooling, without moulding, and without any constraint on form.
