Base - Sabar

Possibly one of the more unusual briefs we have accepted. The Sabar came about whilst working with Base Design, who were branding Kiki de Montparnasse for their new store on Green Street in New York. The form arose from research into ergonomics, production processes and how to create a simple but scientifically considered device. Made from opiate-free plastic with continuous sensuous curves designed for fluid flexibility, the side panels are scooped out using the principle of nodes and anti-nodes to maximise vibration. A light switch at the front controls speed. The Sabar was launched at 100% Design Tokyo in October 2007, where 350 units were suspended in the shape of a heart at the entrance to the show as a giant chandelier installation. A limited batch was available at the Michael Young shop inside the venue.
